Guide
Connect your own domain
On Basic (1 domain) and Pro (3 domains) you can receive alias mail at a domain you own, like hello@yourname.com.
Before you start
- You need access to your domain's DNS settings (at your registrar or DNS host, such as Cloudflare, Namecheap or GoDaddy).
- Pointing a domain's MX records at us means all mail for that domain comes to Piped.email. If the domain already receives mail somewhere else (for example Google Workspace), use a subdomain such as
mail.yourname.cominstead. - Apex domains and subdomains both work. Internationalised (IDN) domains aren't supported yet.
1. Add the domain
Open Domains in your dashboard and add the domain. You'll see a table of DNS records, each with a copy button.
2. Add the DNS records
Ownership (TXT)
A TXT record named _piped-verify.yourdomain.com. Many DNS hosts want only the part before your domain, so enter _piped-verify as the name.
Receiving (MX)
Two MX records on the domain itself (name @ at most hosts), with the priorities shown. Remove any other MX records on the same name.
Verification (three DKIM CNAME records)
Three CNAME records named like abc123._domainkey.yourdomain.com, each pointing at ….dkim.amazonses.com. They prove the domain is yours to our mail provider and sign your replies so they don't land in spam. Many DNS hosts want only the part before your domain as the name. On Cloudflare, set them to DNS only (grey cloud).
3. Check
Press Check now. DNS changes usually show up within minutes but can take up to an hour. We also re-check pending domains every 10 minutes. Once all the records are found and verified, the domain becomes Active and appears in the alias domain picker.
Catch-all
With catch-all on, mail to any address at your domain creates an alias the first time it arrives, routed to your primary inbox. Each one counts toward your plan's alias limit; once you reach it, unknown addresses are refused. With catch-all off, only aliases you create receive mail.
Troubleshooting
- "Found instead" shows another value: an old record is still in place. Delete it and check again.
- Status says "Needs attention": your MX records stopped pointing at us on two daily checks in a row. Restore them and press Check now.
- "Already connected to another account": someone else verified this domain first. Contact support if it's yours.
Aliases on your own domain can't be transferred to other users. Removing a domain deletes its aliases; you or anyone else can connect it again later after re-verifying.
